Competencia de Composición RECITAL MUSIC
« : 20-11-2009 12:02 pm »
The 2010 Recital Music Composition Competition for Double Bass is open to composers of any age or nationality. The theme of the competition is the discovery of Jupiter's four largest moons in January 1610 by Galileo Galilei, now called the Galilean or 'Medician' satellites, in honour of their Florentine heritage.

There are five categories and submitted works written in any style or idiom are acceptable. Composers may submit more than one entry, but each must be accompanied by the relevant entry fee.

Works should be unpublished but may have been performed previously.

Works written for 4-stringed basses, with the lowest note of E, and in any standard tuning are preferred. Recordings may also be submitted with each entry.

CATEGORY 1

A work for one or more double basses, or double bass and piano

Duration: 3-6 minutes

Theme: Io is the most active volcanic body in the solar system and is continually being resurfaced by its volcanic activity. The surface is very colourful, mottled with red, yellow, white and orange black markings. It is relatively hot, lacking in meteoric craters and its eruptive material is probably liquid sulphur.

Prize: £100 - donated by Fuller Music

CATEGORY 2

A work for one or more double basses, or double bass and piano

Duration: 3-6 minutes

Theme: Europa is the sixth largest moon in the solar system and is completely wrapped in ice. It is fascinating because of its possible subsurface ocean of water. In 1979 the Voyager spacecraft sent pictures to earth showing pale yellow icy plains with red and brown mottled regions. All the evidence hints at a unique geological history.

Prize: £100 - donated by AR Distribution

CATEGORY 3

A work for one or more double basses, or double bass and piano

Duration: 3-6 minutes

Theme: Ganymede is the largest moon in the solar system and is likely to be composed of a rocky core with a water/ice mantle and a crust of rock and ice. Larger than Mercury or Pluto, Ganymede is three-quarters the size of Mars.

Prize: £100 - donated by Recital Music

CATEGORY 4

A work for one or more double basses, or double bass and piano

Duration: 3-6 minutes

Theme: Callisto is the third largest satellite in the solar system - almost the size of Mercury. It is the outermost of the Galilean satellites and is the most heavily cratered of the four moons. With a surface of about 4 billion years old, Callisto has the oldest landscape in the solar system.

Prize: £100 - donated by Martin Penning

CATEGORY 5 - OPEN

A work for one or more double basses, or double bass and any other instrument(s). Chamber works are acceptable but the double bass must play a prominent role in the ensemble.
